How do I Use the Static FBML Editor?

Facebook Pages are fairly standard.  They pretty much all look alike.  If you want yours to be different, you need Static FBML.  With Static FBML, you can create a new, custom box for your page with enhanced features.   You can add images, music, video, just about anything you like.

Static FBML is not a WYSIWYG editor.  I don't recommend you use this feature unless you have some experience writing web pages.

To use the Static FBML application once it's installed:

  1. Go to your Facebook page.
  2. Click on Edit, which is located just beneath your logo at the top left of your page.  That opens a new window that shows all the applications you are using.
  3. Look for the Static FBML application (Image 1).
  4. Click on the pencil at the upper right hand corner of that section.  That opens a pop-up box.
  5. Choose Edit.  That opens an editor (Image 2).
  6. This is where you write your code.  Unless you're real good at writing code The easiest way to use add content (links, pictures, other features), is to write your HTML using a WYSIWYG HTML editor, copy the code, and paste it into the editor (Image 3).
  7. When you're finished, click Save Changes.
  8. Once you've saved your changes, you can view the finished product on the page itself.  Look for a link back to the page atop the editor on the left.

When you have finished your work, go back to your page.  Look at the tabs.  You will see one called Boxes.  Click on it.  That will open a new window that contains your finished product (Image 4).  Note also the new tab HowDoIFacebook.
